Motivational Interviewing Training
Does Part Of Your Job Involve Encouraging People To Make Changes In Their Lives?
Is Part Of Your Work Motivating Others?
As practitioners, our attitudes and approaches can have a dramatic effect on
how we help others to make changes.
Motivational Interviewing has gained wide recognition by professionals from many
fields in providing not only a useful framework for understanding behaviour change
but also a non confrontational style that helps people move on in their lives. It
is now used in a range of settings such as primary health care, probation, education,
the prison service and the addictions fields.
We provide workshops that aim to introduce participants to the model, concepts
and skills for helping people to change. Participants have an opportunity to learn
through group discussion, experiential and skills based exercises.
About Ariana Faris
I am a UKCP registered Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Senior Lecturer in Counselling,
Member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.
My Training Experience
I am a psychotherapist, counsellor and freelance trainer. I have worked over the
last 14 years in a wide range of settings and with a wide range of issues. I was first
trained myself in Motivational Interviewing 12 years ago and have used this approach
both exclusively and integrated within my practice as a therapist. I attended training
by the authors of the approach Bill Miller and Steve Rollnick and am part of the
Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers which keeps me up to date with developments
in the field of MI.
I have provided Motivational Interviewing training for the past 11 years to groups of
professionals from a variety of backgrounds nationwide. These have been both inhouse
tailor made training workshops and general workshops open to all. In particular I have an
interest in the application of Motivational interviewing in health care settings, education
and mental health. I have provided other training in related fields such as effective
communication skills, stress management, supervision skills, brief therapy, systemic therapy
and working with families. I also work part time as a Senior Lecturer in Counselling.
